About the inquiry

The parliamentary inquiry into Labor’s plan to demolish 44 public housing towers and privatise most of the land is now open for submissions.

The inquiry will investigate the rationale and cost-modelling for the decision, whether alternatives were considered, as well as the plan’s impact on current public housing residents.

Many groups that stand to profit from the government’s decision will be making submissions in support of demolishing the towers, including property developers and wealthy investors.

It is crucial that MPs hear from public housing residents and community members about what you think of Labor wanting to demolish the towers. If the parliamentary committee hears from people like you opposing the project, it will make it harder for Labor to go ahead with it.

This inquiry is an opportunity to force the Labor government to tell the truth about this disastrous project and to save public housing in Victoria.

How to make a submission

Submissions must be made between 30 September 2024 and 31 March 2025. The sooner the better so the inquiry committee and media have more time to consider your input.

You can make a submission in writing or as an audio or video recording. Your submission must address one or all of the Inquiry’s ‘Terms of Reference’.

Please contact us at katherine.copsey@parliament.vic.gov.au if you would like help with your submission or attend a submission writing workshop.

Once completed you can make your submission via the Parliament website.
