But the Victorian Labor Government wants to demolish all 44 public housing towers in our state and sell off the land to private property developers for massive profits.
This cash grab will kick 10,000 residents out of their homes, tear communities apart and make the housing crisis worse.
There are more than 120,000 people on the public housing waitlist, and increasing numbers are experiencing homelessness.
In a housing crisis we need to build more public housing, not demolish what we have.
Most of the housing that developers will rebuild on these sites will be expensive private apartments, not affordable public homes.
Economists, architects, planners and housing experts agree that Labor’s plan to demolish public housing is disastrous. The towers were built to last and residents are fighting to stay.
